The Birthday Party

Way late but Isaac's birthday party was on April 26th. We had a Star Wars themed party and much fun was had! Almost all of our activities were planned for outside but, little did we know, we'd wake up to an inch of SNOW on the ground in late April!! We improvised and did our outside games in the garage and out the sliding glass door and all worked out fine.

Katie did the decorating and put streamers up in red and black for Darth Vader and Darth Maul and blue and green for Yoda and the Jedi. We also had Star Wars balloons and white/black balloons.

We sent out invitations that said the following...

" It was a time of turmoil in the galaxy. Six years ago a baby boy was born. His name was Isaac and he was strong with the force. Hidden away on a remote planet called Earth, Isaac's Jedi training has been progressing well. But now the Sith have learned of the boy, and seek him diligently. To overcome this threat, Isaac will need the help of others- so a call is sent out for other brave younglings to come and learn the ways of the Jedi. Only with their strengh and courage can the Sith be defeated and the Jedi order preserved.

Child's name, you have been chosen to join forces with Isaac and the Jedi order to stop the evil of the Sith! This Jedi training will be disguised as a birthday party, so the Sith will hopefully not learn of our plans. If you are up to the challenge, make your way to the (subdivision name) secter of the (community name) star system. The party" will take place at landing platform (house number) of (street name)space port. From 1:00-3:00 on April 26th 2008 standard earth time. As you know these are desperate times so please let the Jedi Councel know if you and any family members will be attending the "party" by calling our representative on Earth at (phone number). May the Force be with you!"

I can't take the credit for writing that. I found it on a website for Star Wars party ideas but loved it!

At the party, we had light-sabers made out of pool noodles and electric tape and the kids practiced their skills by keeping balloons in the air (white and black to signify the light and dark side) and then by popping bubbles.

Then they got to take turns whacking a Star Wars pinata filled with candy. I would have loved to see that but was inside with Elijah and Russ forgot to come get me to watch and take pictures. : (

Our next game was destroying the Death Star with water balloons. I had painted a Death Star on a big piece of tagboard and Russ spent a couple of hours that morning filling water balloons and getting his fingers all tore up in the process. I'm sure there were some bad words said during those hours!

After that it was time for cake and ice cream! We made a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting (light side) and chocolate with chocolate frosting (dark side). We stayed with the light/dark theme with the ice cream too-half chocolate half vanilla. The kids had so much fun seeing who chose the light and who chose the dark.Then it was the much awaited present time! Isaac got some great gifts including the Mouse Trap game, a Star Wars Jedi ship and Webkinz (which, by the way, has become both mine and his new addiction!).

It was a successful party and a fun day!
