We were getting ready to go to Isaac's play on Friday night. Russ was making dinner and I was taking a shower while the boys were watching tv. Isaac was sitting on the arm of the couch and fell off. Russ ran upstairs and yelled into the bathroom that he thought Isaac broke his collar bone and he needed help. I jumped out of the shower, threw on my robe and ran downstairs where Isaac was very upset, crying and saying he did not want to go to the doctor while Russ and Katie were reassuring him that a broken bone did not mean he'd need a shot.
He was in his pj pants still and shirtless so I put on one of my big zip up sweatshirts over his arm, we called the director to let her know, and we headed to urgent care looking rather a mess with Isaac in his too big clothes and me with my hair sopping wet from the shower.
At urgent care the Dr. was fairly sure it wasn't a broken bone since Isaac said it didn't hurt when the Dr. pushed on it so he ordered x-rays to see what the problem was. After having to do a couple, sure enough, it was a broken collar bone. I hated seeing that bent bone on the x-ray picture. It's a hard thing, looking at your child's injury like that. They gave him a sling and gave us instructions to give him Motrin when needed and we were off.
We did go back to the play but Isaac didn't perform that night. He got to sit and watch and get the audience perspective which he thought was pretty cool. Getting a cupcake and punch at intermission didn't hurt either.
When the play was over, the other actors came out to greet their friends and family. When they saw Isaac, about 20 girls in angel costumes rushed over to him, surrounding him, "oooh'ing" over him and giving him kisses. Let's hope he doesn't decide this breaking a bone thing is a good way to get girls! He certainly got enough attention over it!
He went back to the play the next day and is being a real trooper!
